A Realistic 12-Month Reduction Plan

The Flight Question: How to Think About It
A single long-haul return flight (10,000 km, e.g. London to New York) emits 2.0–2.5 tCO₂ — more than the entire annual footprint of the average Indian citizen. There's no diet, insulation, or lifestyle change that offsets this. The math is unambiguous:

Household Coordination Multiplies Impact
Personal footprint calculators typically focus on you as an individual. But most high-impact decisions (car ownership, heating system, home renovation, holiday choices) are household-level. A single household that swaps one car for two e-bikes, insulates properly, and switches to a heat pump can easily cut 6–8 tCO₂/year across its members — often two-thirds of their previous combined footprint. If you live with others, run the reduction plan as a team decision, not a solo project.
