About SnapUnitConverter

104+ unit conversion calculators built on internationally accepted standards — with full formulas, reference tables, and offline support.

Why This Site Exists

Unit conversion is a solved problem mathematically — every factor is a fixed number defined by international treaty. Yet most conversion tools online either bury the result under advertisements, require a login, fail to load on mobile networks, or simply give a number without showing the formula. None of those choices serve users.

SnapUnitConverter was built to address each of these shortcomings specifically. The calculator is always the first thing on the page — no scrolling past hero banners or promotional copy to find the input field. The formula used for every conversion is displayed alongside the result, so users can verify the maths themselves or adapt it to their own spreadsheets and calculations. And because all arithmetic happens locally in the browser, the tools continue to function with no internet connection once the page has loaded.

What Is Covered

The site currently covers 12 measurement categories with 104+ individual converters:

  • 📏
Length & Distanceinches, feet, metres, miles, nautical miles
  • ⚖️
Weight & Massgrams, kilograms, pounds, ounces, stones, tonnes
  • 🌡️

  • 🧪
Volumelitres, gallons, cups, pints, fluid ounces
  • 📐
Areasquare metres, square feet, acres, hectares
  • 🏎️

Standards and Accuracy

All conversion factors on this site are derived from primary international standards — principally the International System of Units (SI) published by the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM), and the definitions established by the International Yard and Pound Agreement of 1959, which fixed the inch at exactly 2.54 centimetres and the pound at exactly 0.45359237 kilograms.

Temperature conversions use the thermodynamic definitions: 0 K = −273.15 °C, and the Fahrenheit scale is related to Celsius by the exact formula °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32. Data storage conversions follow the IEC 80000-13 binary prefix standard (kibibytes, mebibytes) as well as the more commonly used decimal SI prefixes (kilobytes, megabytes), with clear labelling to distinguish them.

Results are shown to a practical number of significant figures for each category — typically four to six digits, which is sufficient for everyday use. For applications requiring higher precision (analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical manufacturing, metrology), the displayed formula can be applied with whatever precision your reference instrument provides.

Disclaimer: For legally binding, medical, or safety-critical measurements, always verify results against a calibrated reference instrument and consult the relevant professional standard. No online tool should be the sole source of truth for high-stakes conversions.

Privacy and Data Collection

SnapUnitConverter does not collect conversion data. Every calculation runs entirely within your browser using JavaScript — no value you enter is transmitted to any server. Your conversion history (displayed on the homepage for convenience) is stored in your browser's local storage and is never sent anywhere.

The site uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic patterns — which converter categories are most used, which pages users land on from search engines, and how the site performs on different devices. This data is anonymised and subject to Google's standard data processing terms. You can opt out of analytics tracking via the cookie preference panel, and the site's conversion tools will function identically whether you accept or decline analytics.

No advertising is served on this site. There are no affiliate links embedded in converter results. The full privacy policy is available at snapunitconverter.com/privacy.

How the Site Is Built

SnapUnitConverter is a client-side web application built with React and served as a static site. There is no backend server processing conversion requests — which is why results appear instantly and the site continues to work offline after the initial page load.

All conversion logic is written in TypeScript with explicit type definitions for every converter, ensuring that formula errors are caught during development rather than in production. Each converter is defined with its category, input/output units, conversion formula, and supporting content (formula explanation, reference table, FAQ) in a single structured data file.

Structured data (JSON-LD) is embedded on every page to help search engines understand the content: WebApplication schema on converter pages, Article schema on guides, FAQPage schema on pages with question-and-answer content, and BreadcrumbList on all pages to communicate the site hierarchy.
